Description
This course provides a comprehensive foundation in digital electronics and digital system design, covering both theoretical concepts and practical implementation techniques. Learners will begin by understanding analog and digital signals, logic levels, and number systems, including decimal, binary, octal, and hexadecimal, along with various number system conversion methods and binary arithmetic operations. The course also introduces signed number representation using 1's and 2's complement techniques.
Students will study logic gates, Boolean algebra, DeMorgan's theorem, and logic simplification methods using SOP, POS, Karnaugh Maps, and the Quine-McCluskey technique. The course further focuses on the design and implementation of combinational circuits such as adders, subtractors, multiplexers, demultiplexers, decoders, encoders, and comparators.
In sequential logic design, learners will analyze latches, flip-flops, shift registers, and synchronous/asynchronous counters. Advanced topics include finite state machine design using Moore and Mealy models, sequence detector design, and state minimization techniques.
