Build secure video delivery with AWS CloudFront, signed access, QoE checks, canary streams, and DRM fundamentals.
What you'll learn
⚡ Build secure video delivery with AWS S3, CloudFront, signed URLs, signed cookies, and cache invalidation.
⚡ Add QoE logging and 480p canary streams to verify playback, CDN behavior, startup time, stalls, and errors.
⚡ Understand DRM fundamentals: Widevine, PlayReady, FairPlay, EME, CDM, CENC, KID, KEY, and PSSH.
⚡ ConfigureDASH DRM playback with dash.js, license URLs, ClearKey demos, Widevine dev tests, and error debugging.
Requirements
❗ Basic JavaScript or TypeScript experience is recommended. Basic React familiarity helps, but every course-specific player flow is explained step by step. Students should be comfortable running terminal commands with Node.js, Yarn, FFmpeg, and Git. For CDN lessons, an AWS account and AWS CLI configuration are required. Use a test account or sandbox budget. For DRM lessons, Chrome or Edge is recommended for Widevine and ClearKey demos. Safari/FairPlay is discussed conceptually. No prior DRM, CloudFront, or video streaming experience is required. The course builds the concepts progressively.
Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
In Part 1, we built the foundation of professional video streaming: encoding, adaptive bitrate ladders, HLS, DASH, CMAF, packaging, and browser playback.
Part 2 moves from local packaging into secure delivery and protected playback.
Modern streaming platforms do not just create media files. They need to deliver those files reliably through a CDN, control access at the edge, verify playback health, and protect premium content with DRM.
In this course, you will publish streaming assets to AWS S3, place CloudFront in front of them, configure signed URLs and signed cookies, test cache behavior, run invalidations, use versioning, plan rollback flows, and add simple QoE and canary checks.
Then we move into DRM fundamentals. You will learn how Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay fit into the streaming stack, how EME and CDM work, how CENC uses KID/KEY pairs, how PSSH appears in DASH manifests, how license requests flow, and how dash.js attaches license URLs for protected playback.
The course is hands-on and practical. You will run AWS CLI commands, inspect CloudFront behavior, test protected URLs, check browser Network requests, read playback logs, inspect manifests, and debug controlled DRM failures.
A public GitHub repository is provided with sample source code, scripts, AWS helper commands, player pages, DRM demos, and lesson references used throughout the course.
This is Part 2 of a larger series. It builds the delivery and protection layer required before moving deeper into player engineering, playback control, ABR behavior, and Smart TV platform development.
What you'll learn
✨ How to publish streaming assets with AWS S3 and CloudFront
✨ How to protect playback access with CloudFront signed URLs and signed cookies
✨ How cache keys, invalidation, versioning, and OriginPath rollback affect CDN delivery
✨ How to add simple QoE logging and 480p canary streams for playback verification
✨ How DRM systems such as Widevine, PlayReady, and FairPlay fit into modern streaming
✨ How CENC, KID, KEY, PSSH, EME, CDM, and license requests work together
✨ How to run ClearKey and Widevine dev playback demos in a React/dash.js app
✨ How to attach DASH license URLs with dash.js setProtectionData
✨ How to debug common DRM failures by identifying the failed stage
Who this course is for
⭐ This course is for web developers, frontend engineers, full-stack developers, and video engineers who want to understand how real streaming delivery works beyond basic video playback. It is especially useful for developers working with OTT, CTV, Smart TV apps, media platforms, e-learning video, sports streaming, or subscription video products. You should take this course if you want hands-on experience with secure video delivery using AWS S3, CloudFront, signed URLs, signed cookies, QoE checks, canary streams, and DRM fundamentals. It is also useful for engineers who already know React or JavaScript but want to move deeper into video infrastructure, DASH/HLS delivery, EME, Widevine, ClearKey, and production-style debugging.
