Requirements
This is a complementary course to any full course or grammar course on an A1 level. You can start at any point in your A1 studies parallel to any other German course you are taking.

Description
Are you preparing for your Goethe A1 or a similiar exam with another German institute? Do you want to make sure you know all the words you are supposed to know on this level? Here is your complete set of German vocabulary - Wortschatz - for your A1 test: more than 800 individual words, plus some plural forms, including the areas work, living, buying things, family, forms, education, traffic & travel, numbers, dates & more.

Or you might just want to bring your vocabulary up to date before you move on to the next level, refresh your knowledge, fill some gaps.

This vocabulary course contains all the words that are required for A1 as given out by the renowned German Goethe institute. You will be given the words with an English translation as well as the words in the context of a sentence, also with an English translation. And you can make a reverse test to check if it's all there.

Please note that there are no grammar explanations at all - this is strictly for vocabulary and meant as a complementary tool to whichever other course/source you might be working with in order to complete your knowledge and make sure you covered everything before you go into the exam.

The course contains active and passive vocabulary, which means words you are able to come up with yourself and use in writing and speaking (active) as well as words that you don't need to actually use at this point but will be able to recognize if you see or hear them (passive). The latter are commonly words that come up in test intructions or in forms.

The vocabulary is categorized partly alphabetically and partly in categories such as food, numbers or travel (words don't come up in both lectures, e.g. if Bahnhof appears in travel & traffic, it will not be in the in the lecture Words starting with b). The choice was mostly based on either vocabulary being very specific to one category or suitable for several categories/used more generally. The choice of vocabulary is following Goethe guidelines - I did not pick these words as being best suited for beginner use myself. However, even an established German institute is not perfect and you might know other words that you feel are most definitely A1 that are not part of this set. That is totally fine - you can always go in there with more vocabulary, just not less :)

Good luck! Viel Glück!

Who this course is for
Students of A1 German, who are preparing for their Goethe A1 test or any other test with an institute (e.g. telc)
Beginners of German, who simply want to make sure their A1 vocabulary is up to date before moving on to A2
