Windows 10 (20H2) build 19608.1006.rs_prerelease | 6.3 Gb
Microsoft has issues a small fix to the latest Fast Ring build, Windows 10 Build 19608. The fix, according to Microsoft, will improve overall reliability of the OS. The update is KB4557426, and it raises the OS version to Build 19608.1006.
Earlier this week, Microsoft released a new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19608 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring who are currently testing features for the future Windows 10 versions. The update brought improvements to the default app experience along with some "Your Phone" app updates and new features.
Today, the Windows maker has released a cumulative update for this build. Microsoft said that the Windows 10 Cumulative Update Build 19608.1006 (KB4557426) contains only a single fix that is being released to improve the overall reliability of the operating system.
Unfortunately, Microsoft didn't specify what exactly the KB4557426 does. If you run into an issue with the latest build, try to install it and see if the issue is resolved.
As you may remember, Fast Ring builds no longer represent a specific feature update of Windows 10. So, we may or may not see the changes included in this release in the production branch in Windows 10 '20H2'.
The next Windows 10 feature update after 20H1, known as 20H2 or "Manganese" has already started development internally. On this new development cycle, 20H2 will RTM in June 2020. This is important, as this release will play a vital role in the availability of Windows 10X on new foldable PCs expected to start shipping in fall 2020.
Now that 20H2 can RTM earlier in the year under the new dev schedule, Microsoft can use 20H2 as the shipping version of Windows 10X that's preloaded onto devices like the Surface Neo. This means Windows 10X will RTM in June alongside 20H2, and not with 20H1 as we had initially assumed. Microsoft needs the extra development time to make sure Windows 10X is as good as it can be at launch.
