MBA Series Business Development Curriculum: Data Strategy
MP4 | Video: AVC 1280x720 | Audio: AAC 44KHz 2ch | Duration: 4.5 Hours | 2.40 GB
Genre: eLearning | Language: English

The first presentation is "Data Strategy: Ensuring that Business and IT are in Synch in the Post-Big Data Era", by Peter Aiken of Data Blueprint. In the modern-day Information Age, data is the lifeblood of virtually every organization and functional area in business. Awareness of this reality, however, is only the first step towards solving today's most endemic organizational problem: how to utilize and apply data assets in ways that directly support business imperatives. Many C-level executives who try to get more out of their data oversimplify the data management process, and accordingly find themselves frustrated by the initiative's unexpected complexity, how long it often takes to complete it, and the relative lack of deliverable progress they're ultimately able to make. Mainstream concepts like "Big Data" and "Data Science" make huge promises and sound great on paper, but alone have proven insufficient for meeting today's business needs and providing sustainable long-term benefits. To leverage data in support of strategic objectives, designing and implementing an effective data strategy is essential.

The second presentation is "Empowering Business Users to Lead with Data", by Denise McInerney of Intuit. The most valuable people in your organization combine business acumen with data savviness. But these data heroes are rare. Denise McInerney describes how she has empowered business users at her company to make better decisions with data and explains how you can do the same thing in your organization. Businesses are only as good as the best decisions they make. The business users who drive these decisions are all working to make the best decisions they can. Having access to the right data, in the right way, can propel these business experts in the right direction, and equip them to make decisions that will make the business successful. Data professionals with the technical know-how to empower these users are true partners in any organization's success. Denise McInerney describes how she has empowered business users at her company to make better decisions with data and explains how you can do the same thing in your organization.

The third presentation is "The Emerging Role of Data in Government", by Tyler Kleykamp, Chief Data Officer from the State of Connecticut. Governments collect large amounts of data in order to manage a variety of public programs. Until recently however, there has been little effort to leverage this data beyond administering the program or service for which is collected. Governments at all levels, both in the U.S. and internationally, are in the early stages of leveraging data as a strategic asset to address pressing policy issues, improve efficiency, enhance service delivery, and ultimately improve people's quality of life. Tyler will discuss some of the broad trends across government in the use of data and provide some specific examples where the State of Connecticut is using data to address the opioid epidemic, assist the business community, create a more equitable justice system, and others. In addition, Tyler will address some of the challenges governments face in using data; and how the public can benefit from increased access to open government data.
