A Comprehensive Hands-on Guide for the Acoustic Rhythm Guitarist
Most acoustic guitar players, including working pros and even accomplished singer-songwriters, have a very limited vocabulary of rhythm patterns and grooves. Having a comprehensive range of strumming patterns at your command translates into many more opportunities for playing with other musicians, getting gigs, all while expanding your creative potential for composing your own music.
Corey Congilio's Acoustic Rhythm Guitar Playbook dives deep into the art of acoustic rhythm playing with a massive curriculum, which he organized into 6 sections featuring 60 rhythm guitar studies and grooves.
ATTENTION Electric Players! Don't let the "Acoustic" in the title fool you - this mega-course will cure all that ails your rhythm playing as well!
Each of the 6 sections focuses on a specific rhythm guitar approach and each section features 10 rhythm performance studies (60 rhythm studies and grooves in all). Corey will first perform the rhythm performance study and then break it down note-for-note explaining the underlying rhythmic and technical approach used in the study.
SECTION 1: Basic 16th Strums - "In the first section, we're going to work with 16th-note rhythms. I'll show you how to break them up, accent different parts of the rhythm, and play syncopated rhythms. The chord progressions will be relatively short so you can easily get your hands around them and get the groove."
SECTION 1 includes a 16th-note primer and 9 Rhythm Studies: 16th Note Rhythm Primer, Am to C, D to A, E to A, G to C, A to E, Em to G, C to Em, G to Em, Em to Am, and C to F.
SECTION 2: Song Building Grooves - "In this second section, we'll be working with some bass and drum practice jam tracks. We'll be using some of the 16th-note rhythms and add a few techniques like hammer-ons and pull-offs to help make your rhythm playing come alive."
SECTION 2 includes 10 Rhythm Studies: Hammer The Changes, Small Addition, Mel O D, First Chucka, 3 E 4 E, Synch E Pated, The People's Key, Learn to Love the Dot, Keep it Movin', and Tight Up Top.
SECTION 3: Movable Chord Grooves - "In the third section, we'll expand your acoustic rhythm playbook even further with moveable chords, barre chords, and even some inversions. These studies will get you moving around the guitar a lot more and open your eyes to a lot of real estate on the fretboard that you might not be used to."
SECTION 3 includes 10 Rhythm Studies: Ease Into It, Step By Step, Can't Back Out Now, Basic Battlefield, Steppin' it Up, Quite Common, Bring On the Slash, Double Your Slash, Ditch the Barre, and All In.
SECTION 4: Maj7, Min7 & Dominant - "The fourth section focuses on incorporating major and minor seventh chords, as well as dominant shapes into your grooves. These studies will keep you moving around the fretboard a lot more but they also start to infuse some stylistic colors into your playing with some funk, R&B, and jazz sounds."
SECTION 4 includes 10 Rhythm Studies: Good Together, Keepin' it Melodic, Like a Glove, Sweet D, D in Tact, Dreamy, Two Five One, Acoustic RnB, Slow Jamz, and Sad Disco."
SECTION 5: Riff-Based Rhythms - "The fifth section focuses on ten ways to add riffs to your rhythm parts. Single lines and phrases are great way to spice up any progression and create that perfect groove for the song."
SECTION 5 includes 10 Rhythm Studies: C-Riffic, G Whiz, A for Effort, Acousta Soul, Drop It, Outlaw Vibes, Chime for Days, Big and Open, Cascade, Capoin' Ain't Cheatin'."
SECTION 6: Song Based Grooves - "And finally in the sixth section of the playbook, we'll work through ten song-based acoustic grooves that contain multiple rhythm parts, giving you recipes for creating your own songs."
SECTION 6 includes 10 Rhythm Studies: Into the Pull, Like a Train, Folky Floyd, Minor 4, One for the Folks, It's a Bell, Hammers and Pulls, Mental, Capo Drop, and Ton of Staples."
All of the performance studies are tabbed and notated for your practice, reference and study purposes. You'll also get Guitar Pro files so that you can play, loop and/or slow down the tab and notation as you work through the lessons. Plus, Corey includes all of the backing tracks for you to work with on your own.
