This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
System design interviews are rarely difficult because you know nothing about backend technology. They are difficult because you must turn an ambiguous prompt into a structured conversation, make decisions with incomplete information, and explain why your architecture fits the problem.
This focused course gives you a repeatable process for moving from a blank whiteboard to a clear, defensible system design. In about four hours, you will learn how to clarify scope, identify functional and non-functional Requirements, make back-of-the-envelope estimates, define API and data contracts, sketch a high-level architecture, investigate bottlenecks, and discuss resilience.
What you will learn

The course also connects backend topics that are often studied separately. You will see how REST API design, HTTP performance, TLS, authentication, database models, rate limiting, consistent hashing, WebSockets, and search autocomplete influence architectural decisions.
You will then apply the process to complete Twitter and payment-system case studies. A modern RAG system at ten million documents shows how the same reasoning extends to newer architectures.
Focused rather than encyclopedic
The lessons are short, visual, and vendor-neutral. The goal is not to memorize dozens of diagrams or watch a twenty-hour catalog of technologies. The goal is to understand the problem, compare realistic options, make trade-offs visible, and communicate your decisions with confidence.
This course is designed primarily for mid-level backend engineers preparing for system design interviews or senior engineering roles. It is also useful for experienced developers who understand individual technologies but want a stronger end-to-end architecture process.
You should already be familiar with basic programming, HTTP APIs, and databases. No previous system design interview experience is required.
