WAVE is a state-of-the-art 1D gas dynamics simulation tool. It is used worldwide in industry sectors including ground transportation, rail, motor sport, marine and power generation. WAVE enables performance and acoustic analyses to be performed for virtually any intake, combustion and exhaust system configuration.
How it worksWAVE simulation software solves the 1D form of the Navier-Stokes equations governing the transfer of mass, momentum and energy for compressible gas flows, and includes sub-models for combustion and emissions.
WAVE - dynamic system controlWAVE contains a suite of control elements to simulate the extensive network of control systems required by today's engines. Applications such as the control of wastegates, fuelling and cylinder deactivation can all be modelled with ease using the supplied elements. Live interaction with a running model can be performed using the WAVELive input and Descriptionting capability. This enables instant feedback of results while correlating or optimising a model. The elements themselves complement WAVE's standard flow elements and benefit from the same drag-and-drop connectivity and flexibility offered by the WaveBuild user interface.
The capability for time-step coupling via the RSimlink application programming interface (API) with other commercial or user-written control and dynamic simulation programs means that WAVE can model the physical plant of a vehicle for control system development, drive cycle studies for fuel economy/emissions or lap-time optimisation.
WAVE is used throughout the engine design process - from early concept studies to detailed investigations of production engines. From improving volumetric efficiency to designing complex boosting systems, improving transient response or extracting the maximum performance from a race engine, WAVE is the ideal tool.
