As part of its ongoing commitment to high-quality products and services, Autodesk has released Autodesk Inventor Nesting 2020.
Autodesk Inventor Nesting 2020 - Overwiew
Nesting Utility now has a new name - "Inventor Nesting". This was part of the broader rebranding effort applied to several other products in the Product Design and Manufacturing Collection so customers can more easily understand what they have access to as part of their collection subscription. Along with the name change, we have made some cosmetic changes to provide a more cohesive and unified Inventor experience. It has been a super busy and equally exciting year since launch in April 2018. Over the past 12 months, the team has delivered several updates and workflow enhancements to the nesting capabilities in Inventor.
Release 2020 highlights:
- Improved "Create 3D Model" command: Better Z-axis recognition
- New icons to match Inventor 2020 light theme
- Localization improvements
- Updated tooltips and documentation
- and more...
Given the depth of multiple updates released throughout the year, we realize it is difficult to stay on top of every new feature and functionality that affects the core workflows. Besides highlights, there were several other bug fixes and improvements "behind the curtains" to minimize any disruption.
Autodesk Inventor Nesting 2020 - Date: April 2019
What's New
- Product name changed from Nesting Utility to Inventor Nesting.
- Icons updated to Inventor 2020 light theme.
Summary of Fixed Issues
- Z-axis position of created 3D Model is wrong.
- Creating a 3D Model could sometimes cause Inventor to crash if there were warnings associated with translated shapes.
- Improved localization.
Summary of Known Issues
- Check-in of an INEST file will be blocked if its source IAM or IPT file is not checked in.
- If translation fails with the message "Problems encountered while saving the document", go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor Nesting 2020\Sources\ and remove any unnecessary files.
- Some tables and graphs in the Example-template-full report template are empty. Use the default template (automatically loaded) instead.
- Creating a 3D Model of a sheet as an assembly leaves invisible documents behind in memory. Use File > Close all to close these lingering documents.
- Turning on the Rotate 90, 180, 270 values for a nest has no effect if these rotate parameters are turned off in the nest's material definition.
- In the Create New File dialog box, only one template might be shown. Browse to the appropriate language folder to see all available templates.
- Multiple contours in DXF files will be treated as a single shape for nesting.
- Material and unit of the IPT source file cannot be modified in Inventor Nesting and therefore must be set in the IPT file itself. When you delete a material used by an IPT source file, you need to re-extract shapes from the IPT to restore the material.
- CSV export does not currently support field separators within values.
- To avoid read-only messages, be sure to start AutoCAD prior to opening a DXF source file from within Inventor Nesting (this is standard AutoCAD behavior).
- The 3D Model command sometimes misses the external boundary of some nested parts.
- Warning and error messages displayed during shape extraction and nesting are not localized.
- Splines in a DXF file are only extracted after conversion to polylines by first saving the DXF file in R12 format.
- Cannot author a sketch containing a spline.
- Changing the default INEST template unit doesn't work.
- Layer names cannot contain spaces.
- Localization is not supported when editing configuration files for layer extraction.
- Undo and Redo might not always work as expected.
- Create 3D Model might not work if the folder for assembly components is the same as the source file folder; workaround: use another folder for assembly components.
- To avoid creating redundant materials, postpone setting Inventor as your material Provider until you have selected all sources you want to nest in the document.
About Autodesk Inventor Nesting. Inventor Nesting is true shape nesting software included with your subscription to the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.
The Inventor Nesting works right inside Inventor, providing an associative, in-canvas workflow for nesting flat parts within your available raw material.
The Inventor Nesting automatically tracks sheet metal part materials and quantities for nesting. After the source flat patterns are generated in the Inventor Nestingyou can now start a Nesting Study.
Nesting Studies automatically combines similar materials into separate nests based on their defined material types and thicknesses. These components are nested to efficiently utilize the raw material.
Automatic reporting provides insight into not only efficiency but also the machining time and material costs.
Custom packaging sizes allow you to match the material size to the equipment dimensions or the raw material you have on hand.
Nesting Study options allow for mirroring, flipping and rotating of nesting components to increase the sheet efficiency and reduce waste and materials. And because the Inventor Nesting is associative, changes made to your 3D model are updated in the nest automatically.
Finally, when you're ready to share the nest for manufacturing, a simple DXF can be created so virtually any CAM software can be used for production.
Nests can also be converted to a 3D model so the 2D cutting paths can be created for plasma, water-jet and laser-cutting machines.
Using HSM CAM tools also included in the Collection, you can generate tool paths to export post for your machines.
The Autodesk Inventor Nesting directly inside of Inventor allows you to quickly nest sheet metal components, optimize material utilization and connect directly with downstream manufacturing processes.
