Introducing Shell Scripting. This first topic in the Linux shell scripting video series provides an overview to Linux shell scripting. The shell is a full programming language, complete with variables, control structures, and functions. The shell provides an interface to the Unix operating system. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video to prepare for coding in the Bourne shell and C shell environments.
Linux Variables. This second topic in the Linux shell scripting video focuses on variables and standards on variable names. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and define and unset variables. Practice working with local, environment, and shell variables.
Special Variables in Linux. This third topic in the Linux shell scripting video series covers special variables. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and practice using some of the special variables including $0 (filename), $n (arguments), and $? (exit status).
Linux Arrays. This fourth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series explores Linux arrays and array variables. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and create an array and access data from this array.
Linux Basic Operators. This fifth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series explores basic operators in Linux. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and practice using arithmetic, relational, Boolean, and string operators.
Decision Making in Linux. This sixth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series covers decision making. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and create if...else and case...esac statements.
Linux Loops. This seventh topic in the Linux shell scripting video series explores shell loops and loop control. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and create while, for, until, and select loops.
Linux Shell Substitutions. This eighth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series focuses on Linux shell substitutions. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and use expressions with special characters such as \b (backspace), \f (form feed), and \n (new line).
Linux I/O Redirections. This ninth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series explains Linux I/O redirections. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and practice sending command results to files instead of to the terminal.
Linux Shell Functions. This tenth topic in the Linux shell scripting video series explains Linux shell functions. Follow along with Zanis during the hands-on part of this video and write your own reusable code in the form of a function and then pass parameters to this function.
