LION is an extraordinarily deep synth that features an easy-to-use interface with everything you need for quick patching, endless experimentation, and intuitive sound design.
Under LION's hood is a dual-oscillator architecture with each oscillator featuring 26 modes. These modes range from familiar classics to unique oscillators found nowhere else. Pick and choose from FM synthesis, subtractive or additive waveforms, "super" oscillator stacks, microsound, noise, or variations on each!
Each algorithm has been specifically designed for deep modulation. Additionally, each oscillator engine features an optional Stereo mode, creating wide images at the synthesis level. From there, you can take advantage of LION's deep Unison manipulation of every parameter and optional tuning Drift for rich, full, and lush sounds with just the oscillators, all before you start reaching for any external effects.
Furthermore, LION is also rather unique in the way that it turns oscillator mixing into another opportunity for creative synthesis. The mixer offers distinct modes for combining the two oscillators in ways not seen in any other synthesizer. The default algorithm acts as a standard crossfader while more experimental modes such as Bitwise operations, Bidirectional Sample & Hold, Ring Modulation, Min/Max, Wave Terrains, and direct comparison operators create non-standard relationships between the two oscillators, all leading to truly amazing sounds.
Unfiltered's peerless modulation system is here and better than ever. It now includes a massive MIDI In Modulator that translates your playing into numerous opportunities for deep expression. For example, you can control the filter cutoff knob with the last MIDI note value or modulate the oscillators' timbre through Velocity control. With full MPE support, you can use a ROLI Seaboard or Sensel Morph for incredible per-voice articulation.
With all of these features, you have the ability to craft sounds that feel as though they were produced by a large chain of plugins, tabs, and automation.
The Power Lies Within
Many softsynths include a small library of forgettable effects, but with LION, you can ditch the need for external effect plugins. LION features Unfiltered Audio's already legendary BYOME effect row, a flexible library of over 40 modulatable effects. LION's synthesis engines and BYOME row all have access to the same modulation sources, so you can build complete presets with detailed effect chains that react to your playing. The possibilities here are truly endless, and a factory library of nearly 600 presets across many genres and styles will prove it to you.
Finally, LION takes Unfiltered Audio's concept of "serendipitous sound design" and expands on it with a refined version of the randomization engine that was introduced in BYOME. While browsing through hundreds of presets in search of inspiration, you can take advantage of the new scalable randomization depth. This essentially lets you add anything from tiny amounts of variation each time to completely new presets that bear almost no resemblance to the original source.
All of this power is contained in a single-interface GUI with clear, intuitive controls.
