This album was created by longtime Jethro Tull fan Ray Roehner who simply goes by the name Ray. He wrote 12 of the tracks here and also covered two Ian Anderson songs, "Broadford Bazaar" and "Jackalynn." Inspired by his appreciation of Tull's music, Ray occasionally captures the mood and whimsy of that band's acoustic moments but this album lacks the overall dynamic and color created by Jethro Tull. Somewhere in the Universe is more like Tull in slow motion as these songs never seem to take off and develop their own identities despite having pleasant enough melodies. Granted, this is a tribute to Jethro Tull and an acknowledgement of that band's influence on Ray, but his attempt to mimic Ian Anderson's vocal mannerisms seems contrived, thus hindering Ray's own musical personality to surface. ~
