Tekla Structural Designer 2019 SP1 version 19.0.1.20 | 276.3 mb
The Tekla product team is pleased to announce the availability of Tekla Structural Designer 2019 SP1 (version 19.0.1.20). The release includes a number of enhancements and issue resolutions.

What's new in Tekla Structural Designer 2019 SP1 (version 19.0.1.20):

Highlights

Concrete Wall and Slab 2D Stresses
[TSD-822] - The engineer can now view the stresses on the outer faces of 2D elements.  These are available for both concrete slabs and walls and are added to the options for 2D Results as shown in the picture below.
- These give in-plane` axial and shear stress values - calculated directly from the 2D forces and moments - for the top and bottom surfaces.  From these, additional maximum tension/ compression stress values are also derived and listed for display and these can be viewed for envelopes of cases/combinations.
- For engineers wanting to consider tensile stresses in walls the "σy max tension" option will be of greatest interest - this can be compared to the concrete tensile strength to assess cracking for example.
- Please see the new Help Topic, Stresses in 2D elements, for more details on this feature.
Results Views Reactions Enhancements
[TSD-2771] - The Results Ribbon > Reactions options are now rationalized and enhanced, allowing separate control of reaction display for different elements/ objects.
- New "1D", "2D" and "C" buttons turn on/off respectively reactions for; 1D elements (e.g. column support reactions), 2D elements (individual meshed wall supports and mat foundation supports) and Concrete Cores, as shown in the picture below.
. These can all be activated simultaneously but, in the case of the core "C" reactions being active, any 1D or 2D element reactions resulting exclusively from core members are removed from view.
- Prior to this there was a single 'master' "Supports" control, which turned on/off all reactions, and a "Cores" control which toggled reactions between single core values and those of individual meshed wall supports.

Result Line Section Design - All Head Codes
[TSD-2465] - A simple link to interactive wall/ column section design is now added for Result Lines.  This will enable the engineer to assess design solutions for result lines around openings in walls for example and  is available for all Head Codes which feature Reinforced Concrete Design.
- The Interactive Design option is available from the right-click context menu for Result Lines as shown in the picture below.  The engineer then chooses from  wall or column section design options and the appropriate Interactive section design dialog is then displayed.
- The wall length/ column depth considered is the Result Line length.  The design dialog features full interactive manual selection of both lateral and vertical reinforcement,  Interaction Diagrams and auto-design and check options, just as for a regular wall/ column section.  Note that result lines are not constrained to cross sections in the horizontal plane - vertical sections can be used above/between openings to investigate forces and reinforcement requirements in "coupling beams".
. The section design always considers the main bars (running perpendicular to the cross section) as being on the inner layer, from a design perspective this will tend to be conservative but the engineer should give this some consideration when working with non-horizontal sections.
- Note that the design does not consider the reinforcement specified in wall properties - only that which is defined in the Interactive design dialog.
- Currently the feature is not linked with Reports and so it is envisaged output will be via screenshots of the interactive design and check results dialogs.
- Please see the new Help Topic, Manage and display result lines, for more details on this feature.
Steel Auto-Design Max Span/Depth Ratio - All Head Codes
[TSD-1249] - In line with customer requests, a new control is added allowing the engineer to specify a Maximum Span/depth ratio to be considered by auto-design.  This can be set via the Properties Window > Size constraints via the new "Apply max span/depth ratio" option.  The new setting can also be reviewed and/ or copied via Review View > Show/Alter State as shown below.  During design, only sections which satisfy the maximum ratio limit will be selected.
- To activate the limit in the Properties Window, first enter a non-zero ratio value, then check on the "Apply max span/depth ratio" check box.

Fixes & Enhancements

        - A number of fixes which are not detailed explicitly here are made to improve general performance and stability.  An example is the issue listed directly below.
. [TSD-3053] - Modelling - Portal Frames - adding a portal frame in a model with Head Code set to BS, Australia or India would cause a program error.  This is now fixed (relates only to Release 2019 in which this issue was introduced).
- Review View > Tabular Data/ Reports:
. [TSD-492] - Floored Area - the "Floored Area" table now lists the area and perimeter of both levels and sloped planes.  Also the total perimeter is now shown in the summary.  This applies to the Review View > Tabular Data  and the associated Report item (both within a Report and when sent to Excel), which can now be filtered by selected levels or slopes.
. [TSD-1910] - Material List:
.. Portal Frames - haunches have been added as separate entities to the Portal Frame material list tables.  They are grouped by their section and grade. The mass is reported along with an allowance for the surface area (estimated as half the surface area/m of the full section x projected length, but zero for built-up plates).  Both mass and surface area are taken into account in the total material tables.  This applies to the Review View > Tabular Data  and the associated Report item.
..  Report headings "No. off" and "No. off Connectors" have also been simplified to "No." and "No. Connectors" respectively.
. [TSD-2542] - Storey Shears - the Storey shear calculation at a node is now performed for nodes of V or A brace where they connect to a beam.  Hence Inter-Storey and Cumulative Storey level shear values, which previously they omitted the contribution to level shears from such nodes, are now correct for models with such bracing.  Note that this only applies when the V and A braces are formed using brace pairs.
. [TSD-3009] - Sway - Portal Frames - in the Tabular Data > Sway report for steel columns, columns in Portal Frames are now given a unique reference which includes that of the 'parent' Frame, where previously they all had the same generic reference such as "Span 1 LH column".
- [TSD-3251] - BIM Integration - Tekla Structures/ Revit Export - Analysis Results - the new for Release 2019 export of members forces at the bottom of steel transfer columns (supported by beams) did not work for models with chase-down sub models.  This is fixed in this release.
. Note that when such forces are exported an erroneous Warning message is reported in the BIM Status tree that the loads "...do not include additional moment due to member buckling".   This can be ignored as it relates only to the export of column splice forces.
- [TSD-2389] - Measure - the measure command now snaps to intersection points on imported DXF shadows.
- [TSD-3118] - Timber/ Wood - NDS 2005 and 2015 versions can now be selected for Timber Design Resistance Code where previously only 2012 and 2018 were available.  This enhances integration with Tekla Tedds for Timber/ Wood design as Structural Designer code versions now match those of the Tekla Tedds calculation.
. [TSD-3119] - Design Using Tekla Tedds - when linking to Tekla Tedds for Wood design, the NDS version was not correctly passed to the Tekla Tedds calculation.  This issue applies only to the first Release 2019 first release - in which the link to this Tekla Tedds calculation was first implemented - and is fixed in this release.

        - Wind Wizard
. [TSD-129] - All Head Codes - as an aid to using the Wizard, arrows and text indicating the Wind Directions are now displayed in the active View (both 3D and 2D) when the Wind Wizard is open.
.. Additionally, for UK and Irish BS and Eurocode Head Codes, an Orientation of North arrow and accompanying text is displayed  when the "Orientation known" option is checked on.
.. Note that the Orientation of North arrow direction is consistent with those of the wind directions 0 to 270, in that it indicates the direction of the Wind blowing from the North direction i.e. the North Wind.  Thus it is not a 'compass arrow' pointing towards North.
... For those familiar with Fastrak Building Designer (which Structural Designer replaced) this is a change as, in this program, the Wind Wizard Orientation of North arrow did point towards North.  However the change is in convention only (from rather than to) not in input - to define same North Orientation as in  Fastrak Building Designer, you enter the same value of angle in Structural Designer's Wind Wizard.
.[TSD-3204] - Eurocode UK NA - Structural Factor - when the Wind Load Case > Structural Factor - Automatically calculate separate cs and cd factors option is on (default) and b+h >= 300m, the value for b+h = 300m (the largest value listed in the table) from UK NA Table N.A.3 for cs  is now used.  Previously the default table value of 1.0 was used which could result in over-conservative loads.  The issue applies only to the "Overall" wind load cases and would only affect unusually large structures as reflected by the N.A.3 table limits.
- [TSD-270] - Seismic Loading - ELF - excessive out of plane deflections could occur for semi-rigid diaphragm (SRD) due to incorrect application of seismic lateral force to the SRD element nodes.  This would most commonly occur for sloping roof panels with their diaphragm option activated and supported by meshed concrete walls.   Seismic lateral forces are now correctly applied to the concrete wall mesh nodes in this circumstance and the issue no longer occurs.

        - [TSD-2542] - Storey Shears - the Storey shear calculation at a node is now performed for nodes of V or A brace where they connect to a beam, hence the expected Storey shear arrow and value are now displayed in the Results view for such nodes where previously they were not.    Note that this only applies when the V and A braces are formed using brace pairs.
- [TSD-1709] - 1D Deflections - the Total Displacement value is now displayed in the cursor tooltip for nodes on 1D elements.

        General
- [TSD-1550] - Steel Design - Order Lists - the Order List dialog now features enhancements for Adding and Sorting which apply to both the editing and creation of lists:
. Multiple Sorting criteria can now be set via a new dialog opened by the [Criteria...] button in the Edit Section Oder dialog as shown below.
. When adding sections to list, a new control gives the following options to specify the add location; Top, Bottom, Above Selected, Below Selected.
- [TSD-2429] - Concrete Wall Design - All Head Codes - for walls supported by multi-span concrete beams, the calculation of stiffness of incoming beams - used in effective length calculations -  is corrected to ignore spans entirely overlapped by the wall.  Previously the calculation considered all beam spans collinear with the wall insertion line and the stiffness could be overestimated.
. Where it occurred the issue could be worked around either by ensuring that there was a single continuous beam span under the supported wall or by specifying a user-defined effective length factor for affected panels.
- Foundation Design - All Head Codes (except the Indian Head Code) - Isolated Strip Base Wall:
. [TSD-3146] - Uplift - when checking for top reinforcement requirement in bending design, the uplift condition was previously based on the ultimate foundation pressures and not actual design pressures. This could lead top reinforcement not being identified as required in cases where the ultimate pressures were positive but design pressures were still negative (uplift).  Design pressures are now used to identify the requirement for top reinforcement.
. [TSD-3157] - Bearing Walls - Strip bases can now also be inserted under bearing walls and will be designed for the selected Head Code.
Head Code USA
- [TSD-1629] - Steel Seismic Design to AISC 341 (all years)  - Columns - for columns in Special Moment Frames, a new check is made that their major/ minor axis lies in the specified building direction(s), since either the major or minor axis section properties as appropriate are used in the checks.  There is a +/- 10 deg tolerance for this check and where this is exceeded a Beyond Scope status is issued and no seismic checks are performed.

        Reports:
- [TSD-3216] - Analysis Diagrams - text values for member forces and nodal deflections are now displayed for Analysis Diagram items, reinstating behaviour that was inadvertently removed in Release 2018i.
. In addition to this, new Settings are added to control text visibility, since this can result in some views being highly cluttered.  The options are; Default (off for Structure views and on for all other views), On and Off.  Settings for multiple items can be batch edited by editing the parent item settings.
- [TSD-2517] - Excel Export - a new "Disable cell merging" option is added in both Global Settings and Model Report Settings controlling the behaviour when exporting a report to Excel (Home > Settings > Report > Excel Export and Report > Settings > Excel Export). This affects reports in which the same reference data is repeated on subsequent rows, and for clarity is merged with the row above.  When the report is exported to excel the repeated data becomes an empty cell.  When the new setting is active (it is off by default) the repeated cell data is shown on all rows, which can assist with additional processing of the report data in Excel.
