The Berimbau is an instrument that has it's roots in different parts of Africa and made it's way to Brasil when African people were brought there. It is primarily used in the Afro-Brazilian art of Capoeira, but can be found in various types of music all over the world. If you're brand new to Berimbau or have years of experience, I am sure there will be a lot for you here in this course. I've taught Berimbau all over the world and discovered different ways to teach. Whether it's through my easy to follow notation, having you sing the notes, or just making fun comments to remind you to relax, come and enjoy while you grow. It is challenging in the beginning because it's not really comfortable to hold the instrument, but you will develop super human pinky strength and an amazing ear. You just need to be consistent.
I started making these types of videos where there is no talking because I felt like people talked too much in older Berimbau videos and I wanted to just get straight to it. Also, you don't have to worry about a language barrier.
I will go over the 3 main types of Berimbaus we use in Capoeira. Gunga, Medio, and Viola.
Give you practice drills I've used to find so much freedom with the instrument.
Break down variations and different rhythms.
And remind to relax.
