Evaluating and Maximizing PV Hosting Capacity for Reliable Renewable Energy Integration
What you'll learn
⚡ Explain the concept of hosting capacity and understand its importance for integrating PV, renewable energy, and distributed generation into smart power grids.
⚡ Evaluate the key factors affecting PV hosting capacity, including feeder length, conductor characteristics, PV location, loading level, voltage limits, and powe
⚡ Analyze voltage rise, reverse power flow, active power, and reactive power in distribution networks with high levels of renewable-energy penetration.
⚡ Apply deterministic power-flow and hosting-capacity analysis to identify physical and operational limits of distribution feeders.
Requirements
❗ No advanced prerequisites are required. This course is designed for students, engineers, researchers, faculty members, and professionals interested in smart grids and renewable-energy integration.
Description
"This course contains the use of artificial intelligence."
Hosting Capacity of Smart Power Grid is a comprehensive course designed to help students, engineers, researchers, and power-system professionals understand how modern electrical networks can safely integrate increasing levels ofsolar PV, renewable energy, and distributed generation.
As renewable-energy penetration continues to grow, distribution networks face important technical challenges such asvoltage rise, reverse power flow, reactive-power Requirements, power-factor limitations, and network operating constraints. This course explains the concept ofhosting capacity and provides a structured understanding of how these limitations can be evaluated and addressed.
Throughout the course, learners will explore the key factors that influence PV hosting capacity, includingfeeder length, conductor characteristics, PV location, feeder loading, network topology, active power, reactive power, and voltage limits.
The course also introduces advanced approaches for increasing hosting capacity throughPV inverter control, power-factor control, reactive-power management, Distribution Network Reconfiguration (DNR), Soft Open Points (SOPs), and intelligent optimization techniques.
Learners will understand the difference betweendeterministic and stochastic hosting-capacity assessment, including why deterministic feeder-based analysis can provide practical planning baselines for distribution networks.
A major focus of the course is the transition from a conventional passive distribution network to anactively managed smart grid. By combining network reconfiguration, power-electronic control, reactive-power support, and optimization, the course demonstrates how existing grid constraints can potentially be managed to accommodate greater renewable-energy penetration.
In this course, you will explore
✨ Fundamentals ofPV and renewable-energy hosting capacity
✨ Factors affecting hosting capacity in distribution feeders
Voltage rise and reverse power flow
✨ Active-power and reactive-power behavior
✨ PV inverterpower-factor and reactive-power control
✨ Deterministic hosting-capacity analysis
Distribution Network Reconfiguration (DNR)
Soft Open Points (SOPs) and their role in active network control
✨ Intelligent optimization usingExpanded Invasive Weed Optimization (ExiWO)
✨ Smart-grid strategies for increasing safe distributed-generation penetration
✨ Practical concepts related to83-bus network analysis and PV integration
This course is suitable forelectrical engineering students, power-system engineers, renewable-energy professionals, researchers, faculty members, and anyone interested in smart-grid technologies and renewable-energy integration.
By completing this course, learners will gain a practical and technical understanding of how hosting capacity can beevaluated, managed, and potentially expanded using modern smart-grid control and optimization strategies.
Join the course and discover how intelligent power-system technologies can help transform renewable-energy integration and build the smarter, more flexible grid of the future
Who this course is for
