About: The "Easter Suite" has remained one of Oscar Peterson's least known compositions, although it is mentioned in almost all sources as one of his major works. It was commissioned by the South Bank Show, London's flagship arts program for weekend television, and was broadcast nationally on Good Friday, April 24, 1984. This recording of the premiere also includes an interview with Peterson in which he explains his views on the composition of the suite, his initial skepticism about interpreting such a theme in jazz and his relationship to sacred music.
