Learn EV battery cells, pack design, BMS architecture, battery calculations, Li-ion chemistry, and core BMS concepts
What you'll learn
⚡ Understand the fundamentals of electric vehicle batteries and Battery Management Systems (BMS)
⚡ Explain how individual battery cells are connected in series and parallel to create battery packs
⚡ Calculate battery pack voltage, capacity, energy, power, and C-rate using practical engineering examples
⚡ Understand the difference between battery cells, modules, and complete battery packs
⚡ Understand Li-ion, LFP, and NMC battery chemistry and how chemistry affects BMS requirements
Requirements
❗ No prior knowledge of electric vehicle batteries or Battery Management Systems (BMS) is required. Basic knowledge of voltage, current, and electrical circuits is helpful but not mandatory.
Description
This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.
Electric vehicles are transforming the automotive industry, and understanding the battery and Battery Management System (BMS) is one of the most important foundations for anyone entering EV engineering.
This course is designed to take you from thefundamentals of an EV battery to a clear engineering understanding of how a BMS works. You do not need prior knowledge of EV batteries or BMS to begin.
Build a Strong Foundation in EV Batteries and BMS
In this course, you will
Understand how individual battery cells become modules and complete battery packs.
Learn how series and parallel connections affect battery voltage and capacity.
Calculate battery voltage, capacity, energy, power, and C-rate using practical engineering examples.
Understand Li-ion battery fundamentals and the differences between LFP and NMC chemistry.
Explore centralized, distributed, and master-slave BMS architectures.
Understand what a BMS measures and why voltage, current, and temperature are important.
Connect battery parameters to important BMS functions such as protection, SOC, and cell balancing.
The course starts with the battery itself. You will first learn the relationship betweencell, module, and pack, then understand series and parallel configurations and common configurations such as 4S1P and 4S2P.
You will then build your understanding of important battery parameters includingcell voltage, pack voltage, capacity in Ah, energy in Wh, power in W, and C-rate. Instead of only memorizing formulas, you will see how these parameters relate to real battery-pack engineering.
Next, we exploreLi-ion battery fundamentals, LFP, and NMC chemistry, including why battery chemistry affects voltage characteristics, temperature behaviour, charging characteristics, and BMS operating requirements.
The course then focuses onBMS architecture. You will understand centralized and distributed BMS approaches, master-slave architecture, and how a BMS fits into the larger EV system alongside the VCU, inverter, and charger.
Finally, we connect the theory to BMS implementation. You will understand what parameters a BMS needs to monitor and how measurements such ascell voltage, current, and temperature become the foundation for functions such as protection, state-of-charge estimation, and cell balancing.
This course is intentionally designed as afoundation for practical BMS engineering. The concepts you learn here prepare you for more advanced topics such as cell measurement, current sensing, temperature sensing, SOC estimation, protection logic, cell balancing, CAN communication, and eventually BMS prototyping.
Whether you are an engineering student, graduate, EV enthusiast, or beginner entering the electric-vehicle field, this course gives you a structured path to understand the technology from the ground up.
By the end of the course, you will not just know what a battery and BMS are you will understand how the major battery parameters, architectures, and BMS functions connect together as an engineering system.
Who this course is for
⭐ Engineering students, diploma students, graduates, EV enthusiasts, and beginners who want to build a strong foundation in electric vehicle batteries and Battery Management Systems (BMS).
