Different cultures have different ways of governing. Governance is centred on culture. It informs a group's rules and values about the 'right way' to exercise power and govern-and the 'wrong way.' The question of how cultural policy making and administration adapt to changing paradigms is at the heart of new approaches to cultural governance, as traditional terms of sovereignty and formal means of executing power no longer appear to be well adapted to modern cultural practice. Such adaptation refers to two types of changes: new types of cultural governance on the one hand, and changes in the contents or subject matter of cultural policy on the other. There are numerous new types of cultural governance that are distinguished by a trend toward greater collaboration between public and private actors. Aside from intellectuals, the academy, NGOs, and various professional associations operating in the professional arts and culture sector, as well as audiences and citizens, partners from the cultural and creative industries expect to play a role in these new negotiation-based approaches.
This introduces a specific concept of cultural governance. The book examines the role of culture in promoting democracy and good governance. Increased participation in culture has an indirect impact on effective, democratic societies in a number of ways. There is an increasing body of evidence that culture contributes to building a solid economy with growth potential and abundant opportunities for employment. Corporations that are working to improve or shape culture need leaders who can leverage existing processes and use an intentional approach when making decisions. Culture starts at the top and the best test of culture is when things go wrong. How the board and senior executives handle crises and times of duress is always a true reflection of corporate culture. Board discussions should include how they can maintain a positive corporate culture th rough difficult times. It also explores the concepts surroundinq an optimal governance arranqement for cultural and democratic institutions and the challenges current arrangements have on organizational governance and structures to deliver optimal and effective outcomes. The book also examines that for culture to promote democracy and good governance, actions should be taken towards cultural re-orientation with the aim of making it useful to our democracy and governance.\
