SIMetrix 8.10b

SIMetrix 8.10b | 475.3 mb

SIMetrix Technologies has launched SIMetrix/SIMPLIS 8.10b. This product families provide professional circuit design and simulation tools for analog and power electronics engineers. SIMetrix and SIMPLIS are separate simulators working within the SIMetrix development envionment that provides schematic entry, waveform capture and built-in scripting.

New Features for Both SIMetrix and SIMPLIS:

- Arbitrary Fixed Probe
A new customisable fixed probe is now available. This is an arbitrary fixed probe which can Description an expression of any combination of node voltages and device currents. With the new probe you enter an expression relating any combination of voltages and currents. A symbol for the probe is then automatically created which can be placed on the schematic in the usual way.
- Fixed Fourier Probe
A new fixed probe for Fourier analysis is introduced in version 8.1. This is a fixed probe which Descriptions a spectral analysis. The fixed probe provides all the features of Fourier random probing such as the choice of FFT and continuous Fourier

New Features for the SIMetrix Simulator:

- Arbitrary Laplace Transform
A new linear transfer function defined by any Laplace transform in the s-variable. Supports Laplace Transforms containing lookup tables and functions such as square root (used for modelling skin effect) and exponentials. This new function works in both AC and transient analyses. Transient analysis implementation uses an advanced multi-level FFT method that is orders of magnitude faster than the simple convolution method that is traditionally used.
- SIMetrix Convergence: Extended and Quad Precision Engine
The SIMetrix simulation engine now offers a range of simulation modes that allow convergence of difficult circuits even with tight tolerance settings. This is achieved by using elevated calculation precision in both the matrix solver and device equation evaluation. The higher precision reduces numerical noise which is often the source of transient analysis convergence failure especially in power circuits. Three precision settings are used in various combinations: double precision (16 decimal digits), extended precision (19 decimal digits) and quad precision (34 decimal digits).
- SIMetrix Convergence Report
A new convergence report helps locate the cause of non-convergence. The report lists the nodes and devices that caused the simulation to fail. In addition the report includes the results of a static analysis. This identifies items that commonly cause convergence problems such as:
. Extreme component values
. Discontinuous arbitrary sources
. Floating nodes
. Nodes with no HF path to ground
If desired, the static analysis may be performed on its own before a run is started
- New Transmission Line Models
Version 8.1 offers new transmission line models for both lossless and lossy cases. The lossless line is a redesign of the original model but is faster and more accurate while remaining 100% compatible. The new lossy line is a subcircuit model that uses the new Laplace transfer device. It supports both series and shunt losses and is orders of magnitude faster than the lossy line model provided in older versions.

New Features for the SIMPLIS Simulator

- File Defined PWL Source
The File Defined Piecewise Linear Source (FDPWL) models a Piecewise Linear (PWL) voltage or current source with data points defined in one or more data files. The source waveform definition can be defined by referencing a single file, or, one or more files can be referenced at data points defined by other files. When referencing multiple data files, very complex waveforms can be defined, as the points of sub-files are inserted at the time point in the parent file. One common use for the FDPWL source is driving a circuits with actual oscilloscope data captured from a lab experiment.
- DVM Enhancements
Changes to the DVM module include:
. 3D Testplan Generator
. Nested Multi-Step Parameters can be defined on the DVM control symbol
. LoadComponentValues Testplan Column
. Bode Description Load w/ DC Current Load
. ExtractCurve function can now extract a curve from a specified step in a Monte Carlo or Multi-Step Simulation
- Pole-Zero Laplace Filter Entry
The Laplace Filter models dialog has been updated so that it can now be defined in coefficient form or pole-zero form. The poles and zeros in the pole-zero form are entered as radian frequencies (?), and can be automatically converted to Hz by setting the frequency scale factor to {2*pi}. These filters are available in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd order versions and higher order filters can be realized by cascading two or more filters
- Continuous or Discrete Time Filter
The Continuous or Discrete Time Filter models either a continuous time filter or a discrete time filter, with a parameter editing dialog which calculates the coefficients. You can enter the coefficients for a s-domain or z-domain transfer function and the dialog will calculate an equivalent filter in the other domain using one of the three mapping functions. After accepting the dialog, an appropriate symbol is created and placed on the schematic.
- SystemDesigner Enhancements
Changes to SystemDesigner include:
. Multi-Step and Monte Carlo simulation.
. Start-of-Conversion clocks can now be used by all SystemDesigner Devices.
. Users can input a clock node on the schematic to a Global Start-of-Conversion (SOC) clock network with the use of SOC Breakins.
. Removed reliance of .systemdesigner file.

Changes for both the SIMetrix and SIMPLIS simulators
- Arbitrary fixed probe
- Fixed Fourier probe
- sxrdif.dll remote interface DLL now incorporates ability to send commands - similar to SxCommand.exe utility
Changes for the SIMetrix simulator
- Arbitrary Laplace transform device
- Extended and quad precision simulation iteration modes
- Convergence report
- Convergence static analysis
- New lossless transmission line model
- New lossy transmission line model
- Local parameters for arbitrary source
Changes for the SIMPLIS simulator
- File defined PWL source. This source allows a PWL definition with up to 100,001 points, and allows nesting of up to five levels of source definition.
- Laplace Filter dialog updates. The Laplace Filter dialog now allows entry of pole-zero format as well as the existing coeifficient format.
- Continuous or Discrete Time Filter. This filter can represent either a continuous or discrete time filter with up to a 2nd order. The dialog includes a calculator which allows coeifficients to be entered in either s-domain or z-domain and the coeificients for the desired filter type can be calculated.
- Preprocessor Improvements
. Global variables which indicate the currently running analysis directives are created for every SIMPLIS simulation. The global variables named HAS_POP_ANALYSIS, HAS_TRAN_ANALYSIS, HAS_AC_ANALYSIS take on values of 0 or 1 based on the currently running SIMPLIS analysis. These variables can be used to configure models based on the currently running analysis. This allows models the ability to automatically configure and change based on the analysis.
. During ASCII model creation, all subcircuits are included in the top level model. In previous versions, subcircuits which were conditionally instantiated were not included in the model.
. Added ability to save the state of the simulation for each step in a Multi-Step / Monte Carlo simulation. The saved state allows you to load snapshots for each step, reducing simulation time. The Multi-Step and Monte Carlo dialogs have been updated with a checkbox to enable this feature.
- SystemDesigner improvements
. Added ability to run Multi-Step and Monte Carlo simulations on SystemDesigner schematics.
. Start-of-Conversion clocks can now be used by all SystemDesigner Devices.
. Added ability to input a clock node on the schematic to a Global Start-of-Conversion (SOC) clock network with the use of SOC Breakins.
. Removed reliance of .systemdesigner file.
- Back annotation option to reset all inductors and capacitors to zero amps and zero volts.
- Ability to change all schematic component values to the values from a specific Monte Carlo run.
- DVM improvements
. 3D Testplan Generator
. Nested Multi-Step Parameters can be defined on the DVM control symbol
. LoadComponentValues Testplan Column
. Bode Description Load w/ DC Current Load
. ExtractCurve function can now extract a curve from a specified step in a Monte Carlo or Multi-Step Simulation

About SIMetrix Technologies Ltd. We are an independent company dedicated to providing cost-effective, class-leading analog design tools to the professional engineering community. Our company was borne out of frustration. As professional electronics engineers, we couldn't find a circuit simulator on the market that would give us the features we wanted at a price we could afford... so we wrote our own. That was in 1992.

In 2001 we established a partnership with SIMPLIS Technologies, which created the SIMetrix/SIMPLIS product for analysis of power circuits. We now operate seamless sales channels offering each other's complementary products, although we remain as separate companies.
