Write RTW policies, define roles/responsibilities, and build repeatable workflows and templates.
Analyze job demands and workplace risks to match restrictions to safe, practical work options.
Create meaningful modified duty and accommodation plans that support recovery and productivity.
Build phased return schedules and re-integration strategies (check-ins, reboarding, team alignment).
Track RTW KPIs (lost time, costs, re-injury, satisfaction) and continuously improve the program.

Description
Every 7 seconds, a U.S. worker is injured on the job-adding up to more than 4.5 million injuries each year. And injuries are only part of the story: serious illness, mental health leaves, surgeries, and life events also pull employees away from work for weeks or months.
When there's no structured Return-to-Work (RTW) process, the outcome is predictable: confusion, awkward re-entry, inconsistent manager decisions, higher costs, lost productivity, and a greater risk the employee never returns.
That's why RTW programs matter. Done well, they can reduce lost workdays, control workers' comp and absence-related costs, and protect retention-while helping employees return safely, with clarity and dignity.
This course shows you how to design and implement an RTW program from the ground up-built to work in real organizations and aligned with legal, operational, and human needs.
In this course, you'll learn how to
• Define the purpose, scope, and business objectives of an RTW program
• Build a practical RTW policy framework, roles, responsibilities, and workflows
• Navigate key compliance Requirements (ADA, FMLA, OSHA, privacy, and global considerations)
• Communicate effectively with employees, managers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders
• Perform job task analysis and workplace risk assessment to prevent re-injury
• Design meaningful modified duty assignments and workplace accommodations
• Create phased returns and re-integration plans that rebuild capacity and confidence
• Manage individual RTW cases end-to-end (planning, documentation, execution, reassignment)
• Monitor progress, adjust plans, and track program KPIs for continuous improvement
• Apply emerging trends like remote/hybrid accommodations, mental health integration, and RTW technology
By the end, you'll have a clear roadmap and repeatable tools to launch (or strengthen) an RTW program that supports employees, reduces disruption, and protects your organization.
Whether you're building an RTW program from scratch or fixing an inconsistent process that's costing time and money, this course will give you the structure, language, and best practices to implement immediately.
