Watch as long time Levelup.Digital collaborator Daniel Thiger creates a photorealistic Crown using Substance Designer. In this tutorial Daniel demonstrates his techniques for achieving intricate details and material definition for metallic ornaments.

Learn step-by-step how to create a highly detailed felt material with realistic fabric folds, as well as a fluffy fur material with leopard-like spots. And since Daniel often uses utility nodes to speed up his workflow, he'll be sharing insights into how to create a useful UV utility node to place localized detail with ease.

Also included in the tutorial is Daniels 'Substance Boot Camp' videos which gives beginners a great introduction of the interface and common pitfalls.

The tutorial ends with a walkthrough of how to render this project using IRay, the powerful renderer that comes with Substance Designer.

About the Instructor

With 15 years of experience in the gaming industry at EA Dice and Bungie, Daniel specializes in material, texture, and asset creation. He collaborated with Allegorithmic on their Signature Series project, and served as a speaker at GDC 2018. His workflow and techniques can be found in 3D Artist, 80lvl, Allegorithmic and Marmoset Toolbag's blogs. He offers tutorials teaching the community how to learn Substance Designer from the ground up.
