IRMA records was founded in Bologna in 1988, it all started by an idea that Umbi Damiani had in partnership with Massimo Benini.During those years in Italy, the independent labels started their activities and the style then called Italo House was gaining attention in the Record industry. IRMA's early productions, immediately focused on this genre. Among them, Double Dee worldwide dance hit Found Love, which reached the top of dance sales charts around the world, including the Billboard Dance Chart in USA.
Later on some other
milestone releases by the Label, like Jestofunk and Datura, which with their first albums and the singles they both topped the international charts everywhere. In the following years other important Artist's albums followed on IRMA records: Sarah Jane Morris, Bossa Nostra, Ohm Guru, Gazzara, Montefiori Cocktail and Papik. In 1991, the Bologna based Label, IRMA records, released Frankie Hi Nrg, Fight Da Faida, a single that became the first Italian Hip Hop Single to be playlisted in radio networks across Italy. Following this success in 1994 Irma launched the Hip Hop sub-label named Mandibola Records, that released among others Ice One' seminal album B-Boy Maniaco and two albums by Colle der Fomento to follow, Odio Pieno and Scienza Doppia H.
